Celebrating excellence and 40 years of service
We are proud of our long history as a company, and we are grateful that Jan Southern is part of it. Since 1981, she has provided extraordinary leadership, innovative ideas, and commitment to improving performance for community banks and credit unions. With our clients’ success always top of mind, her drive and enthusiasm to continually exceed expectations are recognized and celebrated.
Before JMFA, Jan began her banking career at American Exchange Bank in Norman, Oklahoma, while her husband was in college at the University of Oklahoma. She moved to Dallas with her husband and went to work at Gardner-Denver Corporation as a Corporate Cash Manager in their International Division. After moving to Tulsa, Jan joined Guaranty National Bank and eventually became Operations Manager.
During her time at JMFA, Jan has been involved in Business Processing Reengineering in the U.S., Central America, and a short project in China in addition to Overdraft Privilege. She was also involved in the opening and operation of an Item Processing Center in Denver in which JMFA participated with one of our Wyoming clients.
An interesting tidbit about Jan, for several months while at JMFA she was moonlighting in the evenings for a private medical practice where she transcribed notes for FDA approval testing of what was at the time called Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging machines. The name was later shortened to MRI, dropping the Nuclear due to negative perception.
We appreciate Jan Southern for being part of the JMFA family. We also would like to acknowledge the support throughout this journey from her family, including two sons, two very lovely daughters-in-law, two granddaughters, two grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and two cats.
During her free time, Jan volunteers for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo—over the past seven years she has served as Assistant Captain for the Wine Garden and Wine Events Committees. Other community organizations she also dedicates time to include the Houston Food Bank and the Red Cross. She also volunteers as an election poll worker and serves as a judge to protect the integrity of the election process.
According to her colleagues, Jan offers an incredible amount of integrity, knowledge, and experience—all of which are vital for our clients to put their trust in JMFA. We are thankful for her commitment to excellence and positive influence.
